Questions and Answers

Below you will find answers to many common questions about Hoo-Rah! Day 2021.

What is Hoo-Rah Day?

Hoo-Rah Day is our annual celebration of Central College spirit and an opportunity to bring the Central community together all around the world! You can join the festivities by sharing pictures and messages on social media, wearing your favorite Central gear or by making a gift to the program or area on campus that means the most to you.

When is Hoo-Rah Day?

The campaign kicks off officially at 12:00 a.m. CST on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, and ends at 11:59 p.m. the same day.

Why should I participate in Hoo-Rah Day?

It’s more important than ever for communities to come together. The Central experience is built on long-lasting, meaningful relationships. So what better time to celebrate these connections than now? Those who choose to donate to Central provide ongoing resources that are crucial to the success of the college and our students. Whether you support scholarships, academics, athletics or our new Central Cares Fund, your support makes a real difference.

How can I make my gift?

Visit hoorah.central.edu any time Tuesday, April 13, 2021, and give to what inspires you.

What areas can I support?

Choose the scholarship, academic department, campus program, team sport or arts program that means the most to you. From contributing to the Journey Scholarship Fund to funding transformative research or supporting important campus building projects, you can make an immediate and lasting difference for Central.

Don’t know what to support? We recommend The Journey Scholarship Fund. This year, 784 students received a Journey Scholarship. Want to help students facing more immediate needs? Try the Central Cares Fund which provides emergency assistance to students facing extreme hardships.

What is the Central Cares Fund?

The current global health crisis impacts all of us, but we recognize some Central students and their families are especially affected. The Central Cares Fund was established to assist students experiencing extreme hardship. Contributions to this new fund will be awarded to students demonstrating need for emergency assistance due to changes in economic or health conditions. Grants for students will help cover a variety of expenses to ensure a successful educational experience for all.

Is it possible to make a gift by mail or by phone?

Because Hoo-Rah Day happens in just 24 hours, we strongly encourage you to make your gift online. This is the only way to assure your gift will qualify for matches and challenges taking place throughout the event.

To give by phone, you may call 641-628-5154 on April 13th from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST, but we cannot guarantee these gifts will count toward giving matches and challenges.

Gifts can be mailed ahead of time to:

Central College
Advancement Office
812 University Street
Pella, IA 50219

What other ways can I get involved?

Share some photos or HooRah messages on social media. Be sure to wear your Central red. Show off the poster included in the recent edition of the Civitas magazine. Share your stories and images using the hashtag #HoorahDay to help spread the word! The dashboard will collect posts, allowing visitors to hoorah.central.edu to view constant updates from the Central community.

What is an Ambassador and how can I become one?

Ambassadors are Central’s digital leaders, sharing messages and creating excitement about Hoo-Rah Day before and during the campaign. With an investment of a few hours, Ambassadors help spread awareness—asking their network to participate in Hoo-Rah Day using their preferred forms of communication: email, text, phone and social media.

If you are interested in becoming an Ambassador, you can register online or email falterc@central.edu with questions.

What if I don't see my area of interest as a giving option?

If you are not able to find the area you would like to support, please select "Other" in the drop down menu, and include the program you wish to support. We will ensure your gift is designated appropriately.

What are Matching and Challenge Gifts?

A variety of matching gift and challenge gift opportunities exist. A match means that your gift will be doubled! All gifts made to the Journey Scholarship Fund will be matched on Hoo-Rah Day - that doubles your gift! A challenge means that we have a goal to reach to unlock matching funds.

For more information on all of the available challenges check out the challenge page

How can I make my donation go even further?

Thousands of companies match gifts to higher education, which can double or triple your gift. To find out if your employer (or your spouse's employer) has a matching gift program, please visit www.central.edu/match. If so, please contact your human resources representative for a matching gift form.
