Questions and Answers

Below you will find answers to many common questions about Hoo-Rah! Day.

What is Hoo-Rah Day?

Hoo-Rah Day is a chance to join with fellow alumni and the campus community and share our Central pride with the world! You can participate by: making a gift to support Central, wearing your favorite Central gear and sharing your Central pride on social media.

Why should I participate in Hoo-Rah Day?

Your support provides Central the ongoing resources that are crucial to its growth and success as a world-class institution. Donors touch lives every day with gifts that support academics, research, scholarships and campus building projects. It takes the collective annual support of alumni, parents, friends, students, faculty and staff to make an institution like Central great.

When is Hoo-Rah Day?

The campaign kicks off officially at 12:00 a.m. CST on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, and ends at 11:59 p.m. the same day.

How can I make my gift?

Visit hoorah.central.edu any time Wednesday, April 10, 2019, and give to what inspires you.

Is it possible to make a gift by mail or by phone?

Because Hoo-Rah Day happens in just 24 hours, we strongly encourage you to make your gift online. This is the only way to assure your gift will qualify for matches and challenges taking place throughout the event.

To give by phone, you may call 641-628-5154 on April 10th from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST, but we cannot guarantee these gifts will count toward giving matches and challenges.

Gifts can be mailed ahead of time to:

Central College
Advancement Office
812 University
Pella, IA 50219

What areas can I support?

Please review the giving options on the bottom of the home page and find the area that inspires you.

From contributing to The Journey Scholarship Fund to funding transformational research or supporting important campus building projects, you can make an immediate and lasting difference for Central.

Don’t know what to support? We recommend The Journey Scholarship Fund. This year, 611 students received a Journey Scholarship.

What other ways can I get involved?

Share your stories and images using the hashtag #HoorahDay to help spread the word! The dashboard will aggregate posts, allowing visitors to hoorah.central.edu to view constant updates from the Central community.

You can also become a Central ambassador, sharing messages and creating excitement about the day before and during the campaign.

Spread awareness within your network using your preferred forms of communication and encourage others to join you in giving back to Central.

What is an Ambassador and how can I become one?

Ambassadors are Central’s digital leaders, sharing messages and creating excitement about Hoo-Rah Day before and during the campaign. With an investment of a few hours, Ambassadors help spread awareness—asking their network to participate in Hoo-Rah Day using their preferred forms of communication: email, text, phone and social media.

If you are interested in becoming an Ambassador, you can register online or email falterc@central.edu with questions.

What if I don't see my area of interest as a giving option?

If you are not able to find the area you would like to support, please select "Other" in the drop down menu, and include the program you wish to support. We will ensure your gift is designated appropriately.

What are Matching and Challenge Gifts?

A variety of matching gift and challenge gift opportunities exist. A match means that your gift will be doubled! All gifts made to the Journey Scholarship Fund will be matched on Hoo-Rah Day - that doubles your gift! A challenge means that we have a goal to reach to unlock matching funds.

For more information on all of the available challenges check out the challenge page

If I'm affiliated with Central in more than one way, will my gift count toward multiple challenges?

Yes! Many of our most loyal supporters have multiple connections to Central. It is quite possible that you could count toward multiple challenges. For example, you could be an alumni, parent, and faculty/staff member - your gift counts toward the challenge goals for all three of those areas!

How can I make my donation go even further?

Thousands of companies match gifts to higher education, which can double or triple your gift. To find out if your employer (or your spouse's employer) has a matching gift program, please visit www.central.edu/match. If so, please contact your human resources representative for a matching gift form.

Who should I contact with additional questions?

For general questions about your gift, you may call 641-628-5154 or email development@central.edu
